About James

I’ve always written. Originally from Northumberland and now living in Leeds, I’ve spent much of my life thinking about ideas that quietly get under your skin. I’ve always been drawn to stories that begin with one unsettling idea and ask what would really happen if it occurred in our world. Whether it’s a superhero appearing in modern Britain, someone fleeing the scene of a fatal accident, or a character trapped by their own past, I’m less interested in how they got there than I am in what they do next.

I’m fascinated by the moral grey between good people and bad people. My favourite characters aren’t heroes or villains; they’re ordinary people forced into extraordinary situations. Those moments of crisis often reveal who we really are, and that’s where I find stories become most interesting.

I’m a big believer that stories should move. I love books that feel like a great two-hour film: they throw you into the story from page one, stay focused on the central idea and don’t waste time with subplots that exist only to make a book longer. Every scene should earn its place, and every character decision should feel believable. Nothing takes me out of a story faster than someone acting out of character simply because the plot needs them to.

If you enjoy stories that begin with one unsettling question and follow it to its logical, human conclusion, I hope you’ll find something to enjoy in my books.
